You can get out and about to enjoy Stone Mountain, which is more than 5 miles in circumference at its base and is said to go as deep as nine miles. In addition to numerous walking and hiking trails at the park where the mountain is located there is also a Swiss cable car ride up to the top of it. A carillon bell tower that has 732 bells plays a daily musical piece for visitors and a covered bridge originally from Athens and a grist mill dating from 1869 are at the park too.

An evening laser show spectacular is presented nightly and is combined with a collection of patriotic and other themed works. The largest bas relief sculpture in the world is on the north face of the mountain, with Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson featured.

Residents of Lithonia apartments have the advantage of a great public library with the Lithonia-Davidson Library. Operated now by the DeKalb County Public Library, it was the first library in the county and formed in 1907. Students attend the Dekalb County Public School System, and Martin Luther King High School is located in Lithonia. For higher education in Lithonia, there's Luther Rice Seminary, yet within a 20 mile radius there are another seven colleges, universities and technical schools.
